Secretary of State Interrupts Trump with Scrawled Note on Gaza Peace Deal
An urgent handwritten message passed to the President by his top diplomat, Marco Rubio, suggested that an announcement regarding a ceasefire deal in Gaza might be made imminently.
Recorded in a image, the note's text urged the president to authorize a post on his Truth Social network to announce the news first.
"Very close," it stated, according to the photo. "You are needed to approve a Truth Social post soon so you can announce deal first."
Not long after the note was revealed, Trump published on his Truth Social network, stating he was "very proud" to announce the first phase of the deal.
"This indicates that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will pull back their Troops to an mutually accepted line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace," he stated.
The Moment the Note Was Passed to Trump
Trump was conducting a roundtable event with conservative influencers about antifa when Rubio, standing in the rear of the White House's state room, got his attention.
He had news for Trump, he said, but it would have to be delayed until after the press left. Subsequently, Rubio passed the president the message.
"I just received a note by the secretary of state saying that we're very close to a deal on the Middle East, and they're gonna need me pretty quickly," Trump announced. "Therefore, we will address a couple of more questions."
Background of the Peace Talks
The event had already been going on for more than an hour when Rubio first approached. The president invited him to enter, and Rubio whispered something to Trump before giving him the note.
The note's pressing nature coincided with Trump's key regional advisor, Steve Witkoff, Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and other senior officials joined a third day of peace talks between Israel and Hamas at an Red Sea location – a sign that negotiators aim to dive deeply into the most challenging topics of a US plan to end the war in Gaza.
Trump's Remarks on Middle East Travel
Trump had kicked off the influencer event by telling assembled journalists that he planned to travel to the Middle East "toward the end of the week" and could even "visit multiple locations" in the region to Cairo and possibly Gaza as US diplomats neared completion of a deal.
Still, even after Rubio passed Trump the note, Trump kept speaking to the influencers and take questions from the media as the secretary of state became noticeably restless.
Wrapping Up the Event
Almost 10 minutes after his earlier statement about departing, Trump declared: "I must leave now to try and resolve some problems in the Middle East – although I'm very well represented by our secretary of state. He could probably do an even better job than me, but who knows."
"We wish to avoid to take any chances. So we're going to go and do that," Trump continued.
He then proposed that Pam Bondi and Kristi Noem stay and answer inquiries in his absence. Nonetheless, Trump continued to take questions before the event concluded without Cabinet members remaining behind.
"We're gonna get peace in the Middle East," Trump wrapped by saying. "That's what we want to do."
